The thermometer outside is reading a chilly 13 degrees, Mat's in the kitchen making chocolate chip cookies, the cats are somewhere napping and I'm in front of the fireplace…
In the eleven years we have been together, we have always celebrated NYE in low-key fashion. Whether it be just us or with a couple friends, we sort of prefer it this way. There is always a bottle of bubbly in the house and we have a nice collection of corks to prove it - all inscribed with the former & new year plus the city & state.
This year we get to add a new state to the collection: Colorado. Picking up our lives and moving across the country the summer was by far our biggest event of 2007. I'd say a close second was the first family Thanksgiving with both our families, ever. It was much better than the family vacation of 2006 when my mother-in-law fell 3 days into our trip, shattered her knee and had to have emergency surgery. Yes, Thanksgiving this year was very nice.
I'm not sure what 2008 has to offer, but if I've learned anything from this year it's that change is good. Happy New Year everyone!!
p.s. the cookies turned out excellent :)
